MedStudy Flashcards ("MedStudy", "we", "our", or "the App") helps medical students turn lecture PDFs into study summaries and flashcards. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
- Email address, display name, and year of study (e.g. MS1, MS2)
- Password (stored securely as a one-way hash — we never store plain-text passwords)
Content you upload
- Lecture PDF files you choose to upload
- AI-generated summaries, flashcards, and review progress derived from those PDFs
Memory Space data
- Memory spaces (collections), concepts, notes, and relationship links you create or import
- Custom link labels and network map layout preferences stored on your device
- AI link suggestions when you choose to use them (processed like other study content)
Usage data
- Upload counts, subscription status, and spaced-repetition review history
- Basic technical logs (e.g. error reports, request timestamps) to keep the service running
We do not collect location data, contacts, photos, or health records from your device.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Create and manage your account
- Process uploaded PDFs and generate study materials via our AI pipeline
- Provide spaced-repetition review and sync your progress across sessions
- Store and display your Memory Space concepts, links, and network maps
- Enforce free and Pro plan limits
- Improve reliability and fix bugs
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third parties to operate the App:
- DeepSeek API — processes extracted text from your PDFs to generate summaries and flashcards. PDF text is sent to DeepSeek's servers for processing; we do not send your password or unrelated personal data.
- Apple App Store — if you subscribe to MedStudy Pro, payment is handled entirely by Apple. We receive subscription status, not your payment card details.
- Resend — sends email verification codes when you register. We share your email address with Resend solely to deliver these messages.
- Cloud hosting — our API and stored files are hosted on secured servers (HTTPS encrypted in transit).
5. Data Storage & Retention
Your account data, uploaded PDFs, and generated study packs are stored on our servers until you delete them or close your account. You can delete your account at any time in the App: Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, uploads, study packs, flashcards, and Memory Space data from our active systems. You may also email us at the address below if you need help. Backups may be retained for up to 30 days after deletion.
6. Data Security
We use HTTPS encryption for all API communication, hashed passwords, and access controls on our servers. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure; we work to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for medical students aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your region (including GDPR for EU users), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Export your study data
- Withdraw consent where applicable
